Dholpur. A significant security breach has rocked the Dholpur district police following the escape of a high-profile drug smuggling suspect from the Diholi police station lockup. The individual, identified as Srinivasan T, a resident of Andhra Pradesh, was in police custody in connection with the seizure of over 261 kilograms of cannabis, valued at approximately 1.30 crore rupees. The escape occurred during the early hours of Sunday, leaving local authorities scrambling to track his movements.
The incident came to light when a duty officer discovered the lockup empty during a routine inspection at dawn. Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspect managed to break through a window in the holding cell between 3:00 AM and 6:00 AM. The lapse in security has drawn immediate scrutiny, leading Superintendent of Police Vikas Sangwan to suspend two constables, Vishnu and Jogesh, who were assigned to guard duty during the time of the escape.
The suspect was initially apprehended on October 17 near the Bagchauli Khar turn on National Highway-44. During a vehicle check, authorities discovered the massive cache of narcotics concealed in eleven plastic bags inside an Andhra Pradesh-registered car. Srinivasan T and his associate, Gedam Amar Chaitanya, were arrested at the time and charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. While the second suspect was remanded to judicial custody, Srinivasan T remained under police remand for further interrogation regarding the supply chain.
According to initial police findings, the duo was transporting the illicit consignment from Balliguda, Andhra Pradesh, to Dausa in Rajasthan. Following the escape, the Dholpur police have launched an extensive search operation. Specialized teams have been dispatched to Agra and Jhansi, and authorities have alerted law enforcement agencies in neighboring states. Furthermore, the Railway Protection Force and Government Railway Police have been provided with the suspect's photograph, as investigators fear he may attempt to flee back to his home state via train.
The police department is now facing the dual challenge of recapturing a major narcotics suspect and conducting an internal inquiry into the procedural failures that allowed the escape. As the manhunt intensifies, the department remains on high alert, coordinating with Andhra Pradesh police to ensure the fugitive is apprehended as quickly as possible.
