Jaipur. With the festive and tourism season approaching, the Rajasthan Police has initiated a proactive approach to streamline traffic flow across Jaipur. During a high-level review meeting held at the police headquarters on Saturday, Director General of Police Rajiv Kumar Sharma emphasized the need for a robust two-month strategic plan to address the city's growing traffic challenges.
The DGP directed senior officials to conduct ground-level inspections of their respective jurisdictions to identify practical solutions for congestion. He stressed that traffic management strategies must be dynamic, ensuring that diversions implemented to clear one route do not inadvertently cause gridlock on adjacent streets. The focus remains on creating a seamless experience for commuters by optimizing the use of existing police personnel, vehicles, and technical equipment.
A significant portion of the discussion centered on the effectiveness of traffic enforcement. Officials were instructed to take strict action against common violations, including overspeeding, jumping red lights, driving in the wrong direction, and riding without helmets. Furthermore, the plan includes improving road markings, installing clearer signage, and ensuring the safety of pedestrian crossings. The police will also address temporary encroachments that obstruct public thoroughfares.
Technology will play a pivotal role in this initiative, with the DGP calling for the enhanced use of the Integrated Traffic Management System, camera-based challans, and Automatic Number Plate Recognition technology. The department also aims to regulate e-rickshaw operations and organize bus movements more efficiently to prevent bottlenecks in busy market areas and near popular tourist destinations.
The meeting was attended by key officials, including ADG Traffic Malini Agarwal and Jaipur Police Commissioner Sachin Mittal. The leadership underscored that the success of these measures will be evaluated based on tangible improvements observed on the roads. By prioritizing regular reviews and field-based assessments, the police aim to provide residents and visitors with a safer and more convenient commuting experience throughout the upcoming festive months.
