Gangapur City Sanitation Crisis Deepens as Workers Halt Services Over Certification Delays

Temporary sanitation workers and auto-tipper drivers in Gangapur City have launched a strike, demanding mandatory experience certificates for government recruitment.

Gangapur City. The sanitation infrastructure in Gangapur City has come to a complete standstill following a strike initiated by temporary municipal cleaning staff and auto-tipper drivers. The protest was triggered by the administration's failure to issue mandatory experience certificates required for the ongoing 2026 state-level sanitation worker recruitment drive. With the application deadline fast approaching, these workers, who have served the city for years, claim that both contractors and municipal officials have been stalling the documentation process, effectively jeopardizing their career prospects.

The state government's recent recruitment notification mandates that all applicants must possess at least one year of documented experience in sanitation work. Employees from the Valmiki community and other groups, who have been working on a contractual basis, expressed deep frustration over the bureaucratic delays. Despite their long-standing service, they found themselves unable to secure the necessary paperwork, leading to a collective decision to boycott all cleaning duties until their demands are met.

The impact of the strike is already visible across the city, as streets remain uncleaned and waste collection services have been suspended. To amplify their protest, drivers and helpers responsible for door-to-door waste collection have surrendered their vehicle keys, causing significant disruptions. Major markets and intersections are witnessing an accumulation of garbage, while residential colonies are struggling with the sudden halt in daily waste pickup services.

Faced with mounting pressure, municipal authorities and private contractors have entered into negotiations with union leaders. During recent discussions, contractors and the local sanitation inspector provided assurances that the certification process would be expedited for all eligible personnel. The sanitation inspector confirmed that records are being verified, and certificates will be signed promptly for those who meet the required criteria.

Despite these assurances, the protesting workers remain firm in their resolve. They have issued a clear warning that the strike will continue until every eligible temporary employee receives their official experience certificate. As the standoff persists, residents are bracing for further inconvenience while the municipal council works to resolve the administrative impasse and restore essential services to the city.
