Jaipur/Samod. Authorities in the Jaipur rural district have apprehended the primary suspect involved in the violent disturbances that marred the recent panchayat elections in Maurija village. The suspect, identified as Suresh Kumar Saini, is accused of orchestrating a riotous situation at a local polling station to disrupt the electoral process. Police investigations suggest that the motive behind the unrest was to invalidate the ongoing vote count by seizing ballot boxes, thereby forcing a re-election due to fears of a potential defeat for his spouse, who was a candidate for the sarpanch position.

The incident unfolded on October 24 at a government school booth where officials were in the process of sealing ballot boxes. According to reports from the Jaipur Rural Police, a coordinated effort was made to incite a crowd by spreading rumors of electoral fraud. This led to a gathering of approximately 200 to 250 individuals who breached the facility, causing significant damage to public property and assaulting election staff and police personnel. Several officers sustained injuries during the confrontation, and communication equipment was destroyed by the agitators.

Following the initial breach, the situation escalated as the mob blocked the Chomu-Chandwaji state highway, causing major traffic disruptions. Law enforcement managed to secure the ballot boxes and eventually restored order by deploying additional reinforcements. The police have confirmed that this was a calculated attempt to undermine the democratic process through intimidation and physical violence.

The investigation is being conducted under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act. Prior to the arrest of the main suspect, police had already taken into custody an individual named Bhagat Singh Lakhera, who is accused of initiating the false rumors that triggered the mob. The police are currently analyzing video evidence to identify other participants in the violence.

Specialized teams led by the Samod police station are conducting raids at various locations to apprehend remaining suspects involved in the assault. The authorities remain committed to ensuring that those responsible for attacking public servants and obstructing the election process face legal consequences. Further arrests are expected as the investigation continues into the activities of all individuals involved in the planning and execution of the disturbance.
