Nawa. In a significant move to ensure public health and food quality, the Food Safety and Drug Control Department has intensified its ongoing campaign against food adulteration in the region. Acting under the directives of Commissioner Avichal Chaturvedi, a specialized team conducted surprise inspections at several prominent establishments in Nawa on Wednesday, focusing on maintaining strict hygiene and quality standards for consumers.

The inspection team targeted Kumawat Sweets, Gopal Sweets, and Shantilal Rajendra Kirana Store to verify the quality of products being sold to the public. During the operation, officials discovered various items that failed to meet safety regulations. At Kumawat Sweets, the team identified and destroyed two kilograms of Kashmiri chili powder, Everest chole masala, and refined flour. Simultaneously, twenty liters of cold drinks were discarded at Gopal Sweets, while ten kilograms of expired spices were seized and destroyed at Shantilal Rajendra Kirana Store.

A major highlight of the operation involved the inspection of Gopal Sweets, where officials raised concerns regarding the quality of stored cashews. Consequently, 149 kilograms of cashews, stored in fifteen plastic buckets, were seized under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. A formal sample of the product has been collected and dispatched to the public health laboratory for comprehensive testing to determine its safety and compliance with legal standards.

Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr. Narendra Chaudhary confirmed that the department is maintaining a rigorous schedule of sampling and laboratory testing across the district. He emphasized that further legal proceedings will be initiated against the concerned shop owners once the official laboratory reports are received. The department remains committed to ensuring that only safe and high-quality food reaches the citizens.

Authorities have issued a strong advisory to the public, urging consumers to purchase food items exclusively from registered and licensed vendors. Shoppers are encouraged to remain vigilant by checking the packaging dates and the 'best before' labels on all pre-packaged goods before making a purchase. The inspection team, which included Food Safety Officers Babulal, Irshad Khan, and Madhu Yadav, along with assistant Raju Ram, continues to monitor local markets to prevent the sale of substandard food products.
