Bharatpur. In a significant crackdown on corruption within the healthcare sector, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has apprehended a senior medical officer and an alleged middleman in Nadbai. The operation, conducted by the Dholpur unit of the ACB, resulted in the arrest of Dr. Shashikant Sharma and his associate, Trilokchand Sharma, while they were allegedly accepting a bribe of 35,000 rupees.
The investigation began following a formal complaint lodged by a resident who was involved in a legal dispute. According to the complainant, a physical assault case had been registered at the local police station, and a medical examination of the victim's family members was required. The complainant alleged that the doctor demanded the payment to ensure that the medical report would reflect severe injuries, a process colloquially referred to as creating a heavy MLC.
Upon receiving the complaint, the ACB initiated a discreet verification process to confirm the allegations. Under the supervision of DIG Omprakash Meena and the leadership of DSP Premchand Meena, a trap was meticulously planned. The team successfully intercepted the middleman, Trilokchand Sharma, as he accepted the illicit funds. The cash was recovered directly from his possession during the operation.
Following the apprehension of the middleman, the primary accused, Dr. Shashikant Sharma, was detained at his official residence. Senior officials, including ADG Smita Srivastava and IG S. Parmila, are currently overseeing the ongoing interrogation and investigation into the matter. The accused individuals are now facing charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
This incident has once again highlighted the persistent challenges regarding transparency in government medical services. The ACB has reiterated its commitment to rooting out corruption and has urged citizens to report any instances of graft. The bureau maintains that individuals can reach out through their dedicated helpline channels to register complaints or provide information regarding corrupt practices in public offices.
