Supreme Court Panel to Launch Five-Day Field Assessment of Aravalli Range

JAIPUR. A specialized high-powered committee, established under the directives of the Supreme Court, is set to embark on a critical five-day field inspection of the Aravalli mountain range. Commencing on August 6 and concluding on August 10, the team will traverse through key areas in Delhi, Haryana, and Rajasthan to conduct an on-the-ground assessment of the region's environmental integrity and conservation challenges.

Led by the Director General of the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education, the committee is tasked with evaluating a wide spectrum of factors, including geological formations, water resources, biodiversity, and the impact of ongoing mining activities. The survey aims to provide a scientific basis for balancing developmental needs with the urgent requirement for ecological preservation.

The committee has requested the Rajasthan government to appoint a senior nodal officer to facilitate the visit and ensure necessary administrative support. While an initial request for this appointment was made in late June, the committee has reiterated the need for immediate coordination to ensure the success of the mission, which was formally constituted by the apex court on May 25, 2026.

Each day of the tour will feature a structured schedule, with field inspections occurring from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Following these visits, the committee will host public consultations from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM. These sessions are designed to gather insights from a diverse group of stakeholders, including environmentalists, conservation experts, local farmers, mining leaseholders, and community members.

The itinerary begins on August 6 in the Delhi and Gurugram-Faridabad belt. On August 7, the team will move through Kotputli and Neem Ka Thana toward Sariska. The tour continues on August 8 through Jaipur and Ajmer, followed by a visit to Beawar, Rajsamand, and Udaipur on August 9. The final day, August 10, will focus on inspections in the Pindwara and Mount Abu regions.

The findings gathered from these field visits and stakeholder interactions will be compiled into a comprehensive report. This document will be submitted to the Supreme Court to assist in future judicial decisions regarding the protection and sustainable management of the Aravalli landscape.
