Sawai Madhopur. The third phase of the 2026 Panchayati Raj general elections commenced on Thursday across four panchayat samitis in Sawai Madhopur, including Bamanwas, Malarna Dungar, Bonli, and Khandar. Residents gathered at 498 designated polling stations from early morning to determine the future leadership of their villages, specifically for the roles of Sarpanch and Ward Panch.
Official reports indicate a steady participation rate, with 18.04 percent of the electorate casting their votes by 10:00 AM. Out of the total 435,681 eligible voters, 78,580 individuals had already exercised their franchise within the first few hours of the polling process.
A breakdown of the turnout reveals that Bamanwas led the district with 18.97 percent, followed by Malarna Dungar at 18.30 percent, Khandar at 17.90 percent, and Bonli at 16.74 percent. To ensure the integrity of the democratic process, authorities have deployed approximately 2,500 police personnel across the region, with specific focus on sensitive and hyper-sensitive polling locations.
District officials, including District Election Officer Kanaram, Superintendent of Police Jyeshtha Maitreyi, and Additional Superintendent of Police Neha Agarwal, are actively monitoring the situation on the ground. Their presence aims to prevent any untoward incidents and ensure that the voting remains peaceful and orderly throughout the day.
This election cycle is particularly notable for the inclusion of nearly 7,000 first-time voters who are participating in the democratic process for the first time. To encourage engagement, the election department has installed selfie points at various booths, which have become popular spots for citizens to capture their participation.
As voting continues, rural residents have expressed high expectations for the incoming representatives. Key issues identified by the community include the improvement of local infrastructure, such as road connectivity, reliable drinking water supply, electricity, and village sanitation. There is a widespread hope that the newly elected officials will prioritize these fundamental needs to foster development and improve the quality of life in their respective areas.
