Barmer. In response to the escalating drought conditions across the district, Barmer-Jaisalmer Member of Parliament Ummedaram Beniwal and Baytu MLA Harish Chaudhary held a high-level meeting with the District Collector on Wednesday. The leaders emphasized the urgent need for government intervention to protect livestock, ensure consistent drinking water supplies, and provide employment opportunities for rural families facing economic hardship.
During the discussion, the representatives highlighted the severe challenges currently faced by the region. They formally requested that the district administration expedite the submission of comprehensive proposals to the state government. These proposals aim to secure immediate funding and authorization for the establishment of animal relief camps, the procurement of fodder, and the deployment of water tankers to remote areas where scarcity has become critical.
The leaders pointed out that the local economy is heavily dependent on animal husbandry, which is now under significant threat. Rising fodder prices, coupled with the lack of water, have placed an immense financial burden on pastoralists. They warned that without proactive measures, the situation for both humans and livestock could deteriorate rapidly in the coming weeks, necessitating a swift and coordinated response from the authorities.
