Jaipur. The health department in Jaipur has officially launched a comprehensive 60-day initiative titled Tobacco Free Youth Campaign 4.0, aimed at curbing tobacco consumption among the younger generation. This special drive seeks to foster a healthier environment by raising awareness about the severe health consequences associated with tobacco use and ensuring that public spaces, particularly educational institutions, remain free from such products.

During a recent video conference, Dr. S. N. Dholpuria, Joint Director and SNO-NTCP, provided detailed directives to district officials to ensure the campaign is executed effectively across all levels. The strategy focuses on six core pillars, including widespread public awareness, strict adherence to tobacco-free guidelines in schools and colleges, and the promotion of tobacco-free villages. Furthermore, the campaign emphasizes the rigorous enforcement of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) 2003 and the Electronic Cigarette Prohibition Act 2019.

Chief Medical and Health Officers for Jaipur, Dr. Ravi Shekhawat and Dr. Manish Mittal, highlighted that the initiative is designed to keep youth away from harmful substances while encouraging them to adopt healthier lifestyles. The campaign will involve active participation from universities and colleges, utilizing social media platforms to amplify the message of a tobacco-free society. Officials have instructed all medical institutions and block-level authorities to follow the established action plan to meet the campaign's objectives.

Deputy CMHOs Dr. Manu Shekhawat and Dr. Surendra Goyal noted that the drive includes educational outreach in schools to inform students about the long-term dangers of tobacco. By coordinating with various departments, the administration aims to ensure that legal provisions regarding tobacco control are strictly observed in public areas. The progress of these activities will be monitored daily through the National Tobacco Control Programme portal to ensure that targets are met.

The health department has issued an appeal to parents, educators, and the youth to support this mission. By choosing to abstain from tobacco and encouraging others to do the same, the community can play a vital role in building a healthier, tobacco-free Jaipur. The administration remains committed to sustaining these efforts throughout the two-month period to create lasting behavioral change.
