Rahul Gandhi Demands Systemic Overhaul Following Nationwide Exam Paper Leaks

Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi addressed a significant gathering of students and youth at the Bannu School Ground on July 17, launching a sharp critique of the current examination framework. The rally served as a platform to voice widespread frustration regarding the recurring issue of paper leaks that have disrupted the academic trajectories of millions across the country. Gandhi emphasized that the integrity of the national testing system is currently under severe strain, necessitating an immediate and comprehensive transformation to restore public trust.

During his address, the Congress leader presented data suggesting that over 150 instances of paper leaks have occurred within the last ten years, impacting approximately 75 million students. He pointedly remarked on the lack of legal accountability, noting that these systemic failures have resulted in zero convictions to date. The discourse highlighted a disturbing trend of commercialization, where specific price points for leaked papers have allegedly emerged, ranging from 15 lakh rupees for competitive engineering entrance exams to 40 lakh rupees for medical entrance tests.

The event took an emotional turn when Gandhi spoke about the tragic loss of Riya Kumari Thapa, a 23-year-old medical aspirant. Her father, Rajesh, attended the rally to share the story of his daughter, a former class 12 topper who died by suicide in June. Her death was attributed to the immense psychological pressure and uncertainty stemming from the ongoing controversies surrounding medical entrance examinations, serving as a sobering reminder of the human cost of administrative negligence.

In response to these challenges, Gandhi outlined a series of proposed interventions aimed at safeguarding the interests of candidates. His suggestions include the establishment of highly secure question banks, the implementation of more flexible scheduling for examinations, and the necessity of conducting immediate re-examinations when irregularities are detected. These measures are intended to create a level playing field and ensure that merit remains the sole determinant of success for students.

The rally concluded with a call for sustained advocacy to hold authorities accountable for the protection of academic standards.
