Sawai Madhopur. A major disaster was averted in the Mitrapura police station area of Sawai Madhopur district late last night when a speeding Scorpio vehicle veered off the road and plunged into a deep pond near Datuli village. The incident, which occurred on the Pipalda-Mitrapura road, caused immediate panic in the area as the vehicle lost control at a sharp turn. The high speed of the SUV is being cited as the primary cause for the vehicle skidding off the road and landing in the water.
The situation could have turned fatal if not for the immediate and courageous intervention of local villagers. Hearing the loud crash, residents of Datuli rushed to the site despite the darkness of the night. Displaying remarkable bravery, the villagers entered the water and managed to open the doors and windows of the partially submerged vehicle. They successfully pulled all the passengers to safety before the situation could worsen, ensuring that no lives were lost in the accident.
Following the rescue, the incident has sparked significant anger among the local community regarding the lack of road safety measures. Residents claim that this specific turn on the Pipalda-Mitrapura route is notoriously dangerous, noting that over a dozen vehicles have lost control and fallen into the same pond in recent months. Despite these recurring accidents, locals allege that the Public Works Department and administrative authorities have remained indifferent to the hazardous conditions.
The community is now demanding urgent action from the district administration to prevent future casualties. Villagers have formally requested the construction of a robust concrete retaining wall at the site to prevent vehicles from sliding into the water. Additionally, they have called for the installation of reflective railings along the pond's edge to provide better visibility for drivers navigating the sharp turn at night. The administration is currently under pressure to address these safety concerns before a more tragic event occurs.
