SUMERPUR/POYNA. A long-standing struggle for basic water access in the village of Poyna has finally reached a turning point. Despite the completion of a tube well and water tank, and the advance payment of 1.59 lakh rupees for electricity connectivity, residents had been deprived of water for over a year. The project remained stalled due to a lack of coordination between the electricity and public health engineering departments, leaving villagers to fend for themselves for their daily water needs.

The situation only shifted after the issue was highlighted in local media reports. Within five days of the public exposure of this administrative apathy, a contractor team from the electricity department arrived on-site this Saturday to initiate the connection process. This rapid response has raised significant questions regarding why the system remained dormant for twelve months despite the necessary funds being deposited well in advance.

Assistant Engineer of the Public Health Engineering Department, Khemraj Berwa, confirmed that the motor starter and service lines are being installed to ensure the tube well becomes operational by Sunday. Similarly, Assistant Engineer of the electricity department, Anup Sharma, stated that the electrical infrastructure is now ready for the water department to finalize the connection. While this development brings much-needed relief to the residents, it has also sparked a debate about the lack of accountability among local officials and elected representatives.

The delay has forced villagers to spend their own money on private water arrangements throughout the year, highlighting the severe impact of inter-departmental negligence. Observers are now calling for a formal inquiry into why the file remained stuck at various levels of the bureaucracy for so long. Beyond simply restoring the water supply, the community is demanding that the administration identify the specific lapses that caused this prolonged suffering and ensure that such systemic failures are not repeated in future public welfare projects.
