Bharatpur Panchayat Polls See Low Turnout as Nagla Singhada Residents Stage Protest

Voting for panchayat samiti elections is underway in Bharatpur, but a village boycott over administrative boundaries has impacted the morning turnout.

Bharatpur. Voting for the ongoing Panchayati Raj elections in Bharatpur is currently underway across the Bayana, Bhusawar, Nadbai, and Weir blocks. While district administration officials have been actively monitoring the process to ensure a smooth experience for voters, the morning hours have seen a relatively sluggish turnout across these regions. By 11:00 AM, the cumulative voting percentage in these four panchayat samitis remained below the 15 percent mark, prompting local authorities to urge citizens to exercise their democratic rights.

District Collector Qamar Chaudhary and Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar Meena conducted field inspections at several polling stations in the Bayana area. During their visits, they interacted with voters and emphasized the significance of participating in the local governance process. Collector Chaudhary expressed concern over the slow pace of voting and encouraged residents to step out of their homes to cast their ballots, drawing a comparison to the high enthusiasm witnessed during recent municipal elections.

Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar Meena confirmed that comprehensive security measures have been implemented at all polling centers. He stated that the police force is maintaining a high level of vigilance to ensure that the electoral process remains peaceful and free from any untoward incidents. Despite these efforts, the day has been marked by a significant protest in the Bayana block.

Residents of Nagla Singhada village have collectively decided to boycott the polls to demand the formation of a separate gram panchayat. The villagers are protesting against a recent delimitation exercise that moved their village from the Singhada gram panchayat to the Bangaspura gram panchayat, which is located approximately four kilometers away. They are adamant that their village should be granted independent panchayat status.

Tehsildar Nitesh Kumar Goyal arrived at the village to engage with the residents and persuade them to participate in the voting process. However, the villagers remained firm in their stance, leading to a complete halt of the polling process in that specific area. Administrative officials continue to monitor the situation across the district, reporting that while the boycott has affected one location, the overall voting process in the remaining areas remains peaceful and orderly.
