XLRI’s XCITE Launches First Rural Business Incubation Program

The Xavier Institute of Management (XLRI), through its innovation and entrepreneurship council known as XCITE, has officially invited applications for its first-ever rural business incubation cohort. This initiative, developed in partnership with the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), aims to foster sustainable and impactful enterprises across twelve states in Eastern and North-Eastern India.

The program is specifically designed for entrepreneurs operating within Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha, West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura. By providing a structured support system, the council seeks to identify and nurture innovative business models that address rural challenges while creating long-term livelihood opportunities.

Focus Areas and Support

XCITE is prioritizing ventures led by women and tribal communities. Key sectors for inclusion include agriculture, non-farm livelihoods, non-timber forest produce, handicrafts, rural services, green energy, and circular economy initiatives. The goal is to build market-oriented businesses that generate significant social and economic value within rural communities.

Selected participants will engage in a six-month hybrid program. This curriculum combines online mentorship with intensive training camps held at the XLRI campus in Jamshedpur. Benefits for the cohort include:

  • Grant support of up to ₹5 lakh per venture.
  • Structured guidance from subject matter experts.
  • Assistance in refining business models and market access strategies.
  • Networking opportunities with investors and the broader entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Ravish Vasan, CEO of XCITE, emphasized that the program aims to empower rural communities to become active participants in India's economic growth by developing enterprises that balance commercial success with social impact.

Interested candidates must submit their applications by July 25, 2026. Further details regarding the application process and program criteria are available through the official XCITE portal.
