Opposition Demands Accountability for Nearly One Crore in Takhatgarh Development Funds

Takhatgarh, Sumerpur. Political tensions have escalated in the Takhatgarh municipality as opposition members demand a detailed account of development expenditures. Councilor Bhanwar Meena has spearheaded the call for transparency, insisting that the upcoming board meeting must address the specific locations and current status of various infrastructure projects that have allegedly been completed on paper.

The controversy centers on a report submitted to the District Collector on August 19, 2026, which outlined eleven public utility projects with a total estimated cost of 99.08 lakh rupees. These projects include significant allocations for clearing vegetation from local ponds, installing covers on open drains across all twenty-five wards, and extensive road repair work involving cement concrete patching.

Opposition leaders are questioning the discrepancy between administrative records and ground reality. While official documents indicate that work orders have already been issued for these tasks, councilors are now demanding to see the physical evidence of these improvements. They are seeking clarity on the exact sites of the repairs, the quality of materials used, and the total payments disbursed to contractors to date.

Councilor Meena expressed strong dissatisfaction with the current administrative oversight, suggesting that public funds are being managed without adequate accountability. He emphasized that the residents of Takhatgarh deserve to know exactly where their tax money has been utilized, especially regarding the maintenance of drains and road surfaces that remain in poor condition in several areas.

The opposition has threatened to escalate the matter by requesting a formal site inspection by the District Collector if the municipal board fails to provide satisfactory answers during the next meeting. This move signals a potential confrontation in the upcoming session, where the opposition intends to scrutinize measurement books, payment vouchers, and work order files.

Beyond the specific 99 lakh rupee project list, there is growing pressure to conduct a comprehensive audit of all recent municipal spending. The councilors maintain that administrative approvals and paper-based work orders are insufficient proof of development, and they are committed to ensuring that every rupee spent is reflected in tangible improvements for the town.
