Jaipur Hosts National Convention on OBC Rights and Social Justice in Public Sector

Jaipur. The tenth national convention of the All India LIC OBC Welfare Association concluded in Jaipur, bringing together more than 300 representatives from across the country to discuss the future of social justice and constitutional representation. The event served as a platform for deep deliberation on the status of OBC reservation, the welfare of public sector employees, and the necessity of maintaining constitutional integrity within government institutions.

Addressing the gathering, Rajasthan State OBC Commission Chairman Madan Lal Bhati emphasized the importance of empowering future generations through education and organized advocacy. He urged the community to pursue their rights through democratic and constitutional channels, advocating for a society built upon the pillars of knowledge, merit, and human values.

Retired RAS officer and reservation expert Jassa Ram Chaudhary provided a comprehensive overview of the historical context of reservation, tracing its evolution back to the implementation of the Mandal Commission recommendations in 1990. He highlighted that the 27 percent quota in central government jobs remains a cornerstone of social equity that requires constant vigilance to protect against dilution.

Chaudhary raised significant concerns regarding current administrative practices, including the rise of lateral entry, contractual hiring, and the frequent declaration of reserved positions as 'None Found Suitable' in academic institutions. He argued that these trends, alongside the lack of proper roster maintenance and delays in filling vacancies, threaten to undermine the effectiveness of existing reservation policies. He further called for the inclusion of an OBC-specific column in the upcoming census to ensure accurate population data for proportional representation.

The convention also featured insights from organizational leaders, including All India President Yogendra Singh and North Regional Committee President Rajesh Kasodonia, who focused on the role of historical awareness and organizational strength. Discussions extended to the specific needs of LIC employees, with local division head B.L. Mandiwal noting that prioritizing staff welfare is essential for maintaining institutional efficiency and morale. The event concluded with a collective resolve to strengthen organizational ties and continue the dialogue between management and the workforce to ensure equitable growth.
