Amayra Death Case: Court Set to Deliver Crucial Verdict on Cognizance Tomorrow

Jaipur. The legal proceedings surrounding the death of nine-year-old Amayra, a fourth-grade student at Neerja Modi School in Mansarovar, have reached a pivotal stage. The Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (Court No. 10) has concluded the arguments concerning the cognizance of the case, with the court expected to deliver its verdict on Tuesday.

During the recent hearings, the victim's family presented serious allegations, claiming that the young girl was subjected to persistent bullying within the school environment. The family asserted that despite their formal complaints to the school administration, the class teacher failed to intervene or take necessary corrective measures. They argued that this lack of support ultimately drove the child to take the drastic step that ended her life.

Furthermore, the prosecution raised concerns regarding the integrity of the crime scene, alleging that the area was cleaned shortly after the incident to intentionally destroy vital evidence. The family's legal counsel, Advocate Amit Sharma, urged the court to include additional charges against all accused individuals in the police charge sheet, specifically requesting the inclusion of provisions related to cruelty and abetment of suicide.

In response, the defense team argued that the current court lacks the jurisdiction to hear matters pertaining to the Juvenile Justice Act. Senior Advocate Vivek Raj Bajwa, representing the school management, maintained that the tragic event was an accident rather than a result of negligence or provocation by the staff. The defense requested the court to dismiss the application filed by the victim's family.

The incident, which occurred on November 1, 2025, when the student fell from the fourth floor of the school building, remains a deeply sensitive issue that shocked the entire state. Following an investigation, the Jaipur police had previously filed a charge sheet against the school owner, principal Indu Dubey, teacher Punita Sharma, and a sanitation worker named Ramu. With both sides having presented their arguments, the court has reserved its decision, and the upcoming ruling is expected to clarify the legal path forward for the accused.
