Karauli Farmers Demand Justice After Fatal Power Line Collapse

Karauli. Tensions escalated at the Karauli district collectorate on Monday as residents from Jhadisa village gathered to demand justice for the death of a local farmer. The protest follows the tragic incident on September 21, when 44-year-old Brahm Singh lost his life after a 33kV electricity line snapped and fell onto him while he was working in his field. The villagers, visibly distressed, submitted a formal memorandum to the District Collector and the Superintendent of Police, calling for a thorough investigation into the conduct of the electricity department.

The community alleges that the fatal accident was a direct result of gross negligence. According to the protesters, the power line had been in a dilapidated state for an extended period. They claim that local departmental officials were alerted to the dangerous condition of the wires nearly two months before the tragedy occurred. Despite these warnings regarding the potential for a collapse, no maintenance or repair work was initiated, leading the villagers to believe that the loss of life was entirely preventable.

Beyond the initial negligence, the memorandum highlights serious concerns regarding the aftermath of the incident. The villagers have accused authorities of attempting to tamper with evidence at the scene. They assert that they possess video documentation of the event and have requested that these recordings be included in a transparent and impartial inquiry. The group is demanding that accountability be fixed for the specific officials and staff members whose inaction led to the hazardous conditions.

The demands presented to the administration include a financial compensation package of 50 lakh rupees for the bereaved family, along with a government job for the victim's son, Rajkumar. Furthermore, they have requested that the family be provided with the full benefits of state welfare programs, including health insurance schemes. The villagers emphasized that the official reports filed by the electricity department must be rectified to reflect the true circumstances of the accident.

Following the submission of the memorandum, the District Collector met with the delegation of villagers. During the discussions, the administration provided assurances that the matter would be handled with urgency. The Collector promised to facilitate the inclusion of a family member in a contractual job position, ensure that the electricity department's records are corrected, and verify the family's eligibility for various government assistance schemes. The residents have expressed hope that these promises will be translated into swift action to support the grieving family.
