Bharatpur/Sumy. A major pharmaceutical facility owned by Bharatpur native Rajiv Gupta has been devastated following a targeted drone strike in the Ukrainian city of Sumy. The incident, which occurred on the morning of October 4, resulted in the destruction of the primary production building of Kusum Healthcare Private Limited. While the industrial site suffered catastrophic structural damage, company officials have confirmed that Rajiv Gupta, the 57-year-old proprietor, is safe and currently located in Kyiv.

Initial assessments from the company suggest that the financial impact of the attack is significant, with preliminary estimates placing the losses at approximately 400 crore rupees. Reports from the site indicate that the strike claimed the life of at least one engineer and left several other staff members injured. The facility, situated just 23 kilometers from the Russian border, was operating with a reduced workforce at the time of the weekend attack, which likely prevented a higher casualty count.

Rajiv Gupta established his pharmaceutical footprint in Ukraine in 2009, transitioning from a business model focused on importing and distributing Indian medicines to local manufacturing. Over the past decade, Kusum Healthcare has grown into a multinational entity, producing over 50 brands of generic tablets, capsules, and liquid medications. The company maintains a strong presence across several nations, including Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and the Philippines, while also operating manufacturing units in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan, and Pithampur, Madhya Pradesh.

Despite the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the Sumy plant had continued its production operations until this recent escalation. The destruction of the main building has now brought manufacturing activities to a complete halt, creating a complex operational challenge for the firm. The news of the attack has caused deep concern among the business community in Bharatpur, though family members and associates have expressed relief that the owner escaped the strike unharmed.

As the company evaluates the extent of the damage, the incident highlights the extreme risks faced by international businesses operating within active conflict zones. The future of the Sumy facility remains uncertain as the firm navigates the aftermath of the drone strike and the broader implications of the regional war on its global supply chain.
