Gangapur City. A somber atmosphere turned into a scene of intense protest at Riya Hospital and Research Center in the Udei Mod area on Monday morning. The incident followed the death of 18-year-old Mahendra Jogi, a resident of Pichanaut in Karauli district, who had been admitted to the facility for treatment. Family members and local villagers gathered at the hospital premises, expressing deep anguish and demanding immediate action against the administration and the medical staff on duty.
According to the family, the young man was admitted to the hospital on Sunday evening around 4:00 PM due to a pre-existing health condition and was placed in the intensive care unit. The situation escalated during the early hours of Monday, between 3:00 AM and 4:00 AM, when his health reportedly deteriorated rapidly. The grieving relatives alleged that the medical staff failed to provide timely or adequate intervention during this critical window, leading to his unfortunate passing between 6:00 AM and 7:00 AM.
Beyond the allegations of medical negligence, the family raised serious concerns regarding the hospital's operational standards. They claimed that the staff present during the night shift lacked the necessary professional qualifications and training to handle emergency cases. Furthermore, the relatives accused the hospital administration of moving the body out of the ICU without providing proper notification, an act that they claim triggered the subsequent public outcry and protest.
The situation drew the attention of local law enforcement, with officers from the Udei Mod police station arriving at the scene to restore order. The police have registered a case based on the family's formal complaint and have initiated a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death. The body was released to the family following a post-mortem examination, the results of which are expected to provide clarity on the medical cause of death.
This incident has brought renewed scrutiny to the facility, which previously made headlines in August 2026 when its director, Dr. Mahesh Meena, reported receiving extortion threats from a criminal syndicate. While police had previously increased security measures at the site, this latest controversy regarding patient care has prompted fresh demands for the hospital to be shuttered pending a full, impartial inquiry into its management and medical practices.
