Brijnagar, Deeg. In a significant breakthrough for the local law enforcement, the Deeg police have successfully dismantled an inter-state cybercrime network under the ongoing special initiative dubbed Operation Countdown. Acting on precise technical intelligence, authorities apprehended five individuals and detained two minors involved in a sophisticated fraud scheme that targeted unsuspecting citizens across various digital platforms.
The operation was conducted under the direct supervision of Superintendent of Police Sharan Gopinath K. Following a tip-off received by the cyber cell, a police team led by Station House Officer Lakhan Singh established a strategic blockade near the road connecting Sai Mandir to Neemki. The swift tactical maneuver allowed officers to surround and capture the suspects before they could evade capture.
During the search, police recovered a substantial cache of incriminating evidence, including two luxury Creta vehicles, a motorcycle, eight smartphones, ten active SIM cards, and two ATM cards. These items are believed to have been central to the gang's operations, which involved creating fraudulent social media profiles using photographs of individuals in military uniforms to gain the trust of their victims.
The gang utilized a two-pronged approach to deceive people. They would pose as army officers seeking rental properties, convincing victims to send advance payments via digital scanners. Simultaneously, they operated a secondary scam involving the purported buying and selling of rare antique coins, promising high returns to lure individuals into transferring large sums of money through manipulated QR codes.
The suspects, identified as residents of the Brijnagar area, now face serious charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanstha and the Information Technology Act. Case number 284/2026 has been registered at the local police station, and investigators are currently analyzing the suspects' bank accounts to determine the full extent of their illicit activities and potential links to other criminal cases across different states.
