Fatal Collision on Jaipur-Agra Highway Leaves Bus Driver Dead
A late-night collision between a sleeper bus and a mini-truck near Bharatpur resulted in one death and multiple injuries, disrupting traffic on the national highway.
HALENA, BHARATPUR. A tragic road accident occurred late last night near Beri village within the Halena police station jurisdiction on the Jaipur-Agra National Highway. A sleeper coach bus, traveling from Ajmer toward Kanpur, collided violently with the rear of a mini-truck transporting a cargo of eggs. The impact was so severe that the bus driver was trapped within the mangled cabin and succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while two passengers sustained critical injuries.
Preliminary reports suggest that both vehicles were heading in the same direction when the driver of the egg-laden truck applied sudden brakes. The driver of the speeding bus behind it was unable to maintain control, leading to a direct collision with the truck's rear. The force of the impact caused the front section of the bus to be completely destroyed, pinning the driver between the steering wheel and his seat. The mini-truck subsequently overturned on the highway, scattering crates of eggs across the road surface.
The deceased driver has been identified as Zafaruddin, a resident of Chandauli in the Alwar district. Following the collision, the driver of the mini-truck fled the scene, and authorities have initiated a search operation to locate him. Approximately a dozen other passengers on the bus reported minor injuries during the incident.
Local law enforcement, led by Station House Officer Vijender Singh and Assistant Sub-Inspector Jitendra Kumar, arrived at the site shortly after receiving notification of the crash around 2:30 AM. The police team conducted rescue operations to extract the driver's body from the wreckage and arranged for the transport of the critically injured passengers to the RBM Hospital in Bharatpur for urgent medical care.
The police managed the aftermath by clearing the debris, including the scattered cargo and damaged vehicles, to restore the flow of traffic on the busy national highway. While the primary focus remains on the investigation into the cause of the sudden braking, authorities are actively pursuing the absconding truck driver to hold him accountable for the incident.
