Sawai Madhopur Farmers Demand Action Against Fertilizer Hoarding and Black Marketing

Sawai Madhopur. Tensions escalated in Sawai Madhopur as local farmers expressed deep frustration over the ongoing scarcity of fertilizers and the alleged prevalence of black marketing in the region. Under the banner of the Bhupremi Kisan Sangharsh Manch, a large delegation of cultivators met with District Collector Kana Ram to submit a formal memorandum addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The farmers highlighted that the current agricultural season is critical for sowing, and the lack of essential inputs is threatening their livelihoods.

The memorandum alleges that government-run cooperative societies and public warehouses are currently devoid of adequate fertilizer stocks. This shortage has forced farmers to turn to private retailers, where they claim to be victims of arbitrary pricing. According to the farmers' collective, some unscrupulous traders are selling bags of fertilizer at inflated rates ranging from 1,500 to 2,500 rupees. Furthermore, there are widespread complaints that these private vendors are refusing to provide valid purchase receipts, making it difficult for farmers to seek redress.

Beyond the immediate supply issues, the farmers have leveled serious allegations regarding a potential nexus between certain fertilizer dealers and local departmental officials. They have demanded a high-level investigation into these claims of collusion. The memorandum specifically calls for the identification of hoarders and black marketers, urging the administration to cancel the licenses of those found guilty of exploiting the agricultural community during this difficult period.

Quality concerns have also taken center stage, with the group demanding that authorities collect samples of fertilizers and seeds currently available in the market for rigorous laboratory testing. The farmers insist that if these products fail to meet established quality standards, strict legal action must be initiated against the manufacturing companies and the retailers involved. They emphasized that they are already struggling with adverse weather conditions and economic instability, and this artificial crisis is pushing them to the brink.

The delegation, which included representatives such as Mukesh Bhupremi, Shankar Lal Patel, and Ram Singh Sarpanch, made it clear that their patience is wearing thin. They have issued a stern warning to the administration, stating that if a permanent solution is not implemented immediately to ensure the availability of fertilizers at fair prices, they will be compelled to launch a massive, peaceful, and democratic protest across the district to protect their rights.
