Police Seize Illegal Sand-Laden Tractor in Sawai Madhopur as Driver Flees

Sawai Madhopur. In a significant move against the unauthorized extraction and transportation of natural resources, the Mantown police station conducted a targeted operation on September 25, 2026. During a routine patrol, officers spotted a tractor-trolley moving along Ghudasi Road. Upon noticing the police presence, the driver abandoned the vehicle and managed to escape into the surrounding area, evading immediate capture.

Upon inspecting the abandoned tractor-trolley, the police discovered that it was loaded with sand sourced from the Banas river. The authorities promptly seized the vehicle and initiated a formal investigation into the incident. This operation is part of a broader, ongoing campaign by the local administration to curb illegal mining activities that continue to plague the region despite strict regulations.

A formal case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Mines and Minerals Development and Regulation Act. Specifically, the authorities have invoked section 303(2) of the BNS alongside sections 4 and 21 of the MMDR Act to address the illegal transport. The police are currently working to identify the owner of the tractor and the driver who fled the scene, with efforts to track them down underway.

The operation was executed under the strategic guidance of District Superintendent of Police Jyeshtha Maitreyi, with direct supervision provided by Additional Superintendent of Police Rakesh Rajora and City Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajendra Kumar Meena. The field team, led by Station House Officer Sunil Kumar Gupta and Assistant Sub-Inspector Kamlesh Kumar, successfully secured the evidence and ensured the vehicle was brought into police custody.

Local authorities have reiterated their commitment to maintaining strict vigilance across the district to prevent the depletion of riverbeds. The police have urged citizens to report any suspicious movement of heavy vehicles carrying minerals to assist in their ongoing crackdown.
