Anuradha Singh Takes Charge as Bharatpur Mayor Following Unopposed Victory

BHARATPUR. The Bharatpur Municipal Corporation witnessed a significant political transition today as Anuradha Singh officially took the oath of office as the city's new Mayor. The ceremony, held amidst a gathering of party workers and supporters, marks the formal commencement of her tenure at the helm of the municipal body. Alongside the Mayor, three newly elected councilors also took their oaths of office, signaling the start of the new administrative term.

The path to the mayoral seat for Singh was cleared following the withdrawal of nomination papers by independent candidate Vichitra Singh. This development effectively ensured that the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate would ascend to the position without a contest, solidifying the party's hold on the municipal leadership. While the mayoral oath has been administered, municipal officials confirmed that the remaining councilors are scheduled to take their oaths in a subsequent session tomorrow.

Anuradha Singh brings a wealth of local political experience to her new role. She previously secured victory in the municipal elections from Ward Number 61, where she garnered 673 votes. Her electoral success was defined by a closely contested race against Anita Singh, whom she defeated by a margin of 41 votes. This victory is not her first foray into local governance, as she previously served as a councilor from Ward Number 62 during the 2014 and 2019 terms.

Beyond her electoral history, Singh is a prominent figure within the local political landscape. Her family background is deeply intertwined with the Bharatiya Janata Party, as her husband, Hazari Singh, has previously served as the district vice-president and district president of the Yuva Morcha. Furthermore, her husband maintains a long-standing professional and political association with Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, which observers suggest may influence the local administrative dynamics moving forward.

As she steps into the mayoral office, Singh manages a declared personal asset base of approximately 1.75 crore rupees. The city now looks toward her administration to address pending municipal issues and implement the development agenda promised during her campaign. With the oath-taking process partially complete, the focus now shifts to the full constitution of the municipal board and the commencement of official duties for the newly elected representatives.
