Privacy Policy
Privacy policy for the Jaipur Times website and Android app, including data collection, permissions, analytics, notifications, retention and deletion rights.
Effective and last updated: 15 July 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Jaipur Times ("Jaipur Times", "we", "us" or "our") handles information when you use the Jaipur Times website at www.jaipurtimes.org, the Jaipur Times Android application, and related reader, reporter, notification, e-paper and support services (together, the "Services").
1. Information we collect
Information you provide
- Account and profile information: mobile number used for OTP login; name; optional email address; selected language; state, district, city and locality; account ID and role.
- Reader interactions: newsletter email address; contact-form name, email, phone number, subject and message; and the name, email and text submitted with article comments.
- News and reporter submissions: headlines, descriptions, full news text, location details, dates, photos, videos, audio, documents and other files you choose to submit.
- Advertising and payment-related submissions: business and advertisement details, selected publication preferences, uploaded creative files, payment status, transaction or UPI reference numbers and payment notes. Jaipur Times does not ask you to enter card PINs, banking passwords or OTPs in these submission fields.
- Support and deletion requests: the information you send so that we can verify and respond to your request.
Information collected automatically
- Device and app information: a randomly generated app device identifier, platform, app version/build, notification and location permission status, Firebase Cloud Messaging token, selected state/district and basic device or browser information.
- Approximate location: if you grant location permission, the Android app may obtain low-accuracy latitude and longitude coordinates to help select or personalise local news for your area. You may deny this permission and select a state or district manually.
- Usage and analytics information: app opens, page or screen views, article/category views, searches, e-paper/e-magazine opens, video/Shorts plays, notification interactions, submission-flow events, session activity and a random first-party visitor/session identifier. Firebase Analytics collection in the Android app is enabled only after analytics consent; essential first-party service analytics may still be processed to operate and understand the Services.
- Technical and security information: IP address, request time, URL, response status, user agent, authentication/session information, error and rate-limit records, and security logs generated when the Services are used.
- Cookies and local storage: the website and app may use cookies, secure device storage and local preferences for sessions, language, consent, selected location, notification settings, draft recovery and similar functionality.
2. Android permissions
- Internet: to load news, videos, e-paper content and communicate with Jaipur Times services.
- Notifications: to deliver breaking news, content updates and account/submission status alerts. You can disable notifications in Android settings.
- Approximate location: to help identify a relevant city or district. Location access is optional and manual selection remains available.
- Camera, photos and files: accessed only when you choose media or documents for a news, reporter or advertisement submission using the Android system picker or camera flow.
3. How we use information
- Provide news, videos, Shorts, e-paper, e-magazine and localised content.
- Authenticate users through OTP, maintain accounts and profiles, and secure sessions.
- Receive, review, edit, publish or respond to news tips, reporter content and advertisement requests.
- Deliver and manage notifications, including content and submission-status alerts.
- Operate comments, contact requests, newsletters and customer support.
- Measure readership and feature usage, improve reliability and user experience, diagnose errors and prevent duplicate or abusive activity.
- Protect the Services, enforce our terms, prevent fraud, and comply with legal obligations.
4. When information is shared
We do not sell personal information. We may disclose or process information in the following limited circumstances:
- Service providers: hosting, storage, database, security, analytics, push-notification, SMS/OTP and technical support providers that process information for Jaipur Times. These may include Google Firebase services, Firebase Cloud Messaging, Google Analytics for Firebase (when consented), our SMS/OTP provider and hosting infrastructure.
- External content and user-directed services: when you choose to open or share content through YouTube, social networks, messaging apps, browsers or other third-party services, their own privacy policies apply.
- Public content: an approved comment may publicly display the submitted name and comment text. Published news or reporter material may display attribution and content supplied for publication. Comment email addresses, phone numbers, payment references and private account details are not intended for public display.
- Legal and safety reasons: when reasonably necessary to comply with law, respond to lawful requests, protect users or Jaipur Times, investigate fraud or security issues, or enforce our rights.
- Business changes: as part of a merger, reorganisation or transfer, subject to appropriate confidentiality and legal safeguards.
5. Your choices and controls
- Use most public news features without creating an account.
- Deny or revoke location and notification permissions through Android settings, and select your location manually.
- Change analytics consent in the app where that control is offered.

6. Retention and deletion
We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described above, including providing the Services, maintaining security, resolving disputes, preserving editorial and business records, and meeting legal, tax or accounting requirements. Retention periods vary by data type and context.
- Account and profile information is generally retained while the account is active and until a verified deletion request is completed.
- Device registration and notification information is retained while needed to deliver the requested service and may be detached when you log out, unregister the device or request deletion.

Include the mobile number or email associated with the account and describe the data you want deleted. We may request reasonable identity verification. After verification, we will delete or de-identify eligible personal data, subject to information we must retain for legal, fraud-prevention, payment, security or editorial-record purposes. Published material may be retained, corrected, anonymised or removed according to editorial and legal obligations.
7. Data security
We use reasonable administrative, technical and organisational safeguards, including HTTPS transmission, access controls, authentication, secure token storage on supported devices, database protections and monitoring. No internet or storage system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Children
The Services provide general news and are not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly request personal information from children under 13 without appropriate permission. If you believe a child has submitted personal information, contact us so we can review and delete it where required.
9. Third-party links and services
The Services may link to or display content from third parties such as YouTube and social platforms. Jaipur Times does not control those independent services. Review their privacy policies before providing information to them.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when our Services, data practices or legal obligations change. The revised policy will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Material changes may also be communicated through the website, app or another appropriate channel.
