Minister Stops Contractor Felicitation Mid-Event, Issues Stern Warning Over Quality in Sumerpur

SUMERPUR. The atmosphere at a major development project launch in Sumerpur shifted dramatically on Friday when Cabinet Minister Joraram Kumawat took a firm stance against the culture of contractor appeasement. During the ceremony for projects worth 49.60 crore rupees, the Minister for Animal Husbandry, Gopalan, Dairy, and Devasthan departments intervened when officials attempted to have him felicitate a contractor on stage. He immediately halted the proceedings, declaring that he would not participate in honoring contractors who are expected to prioritize quality and public service over personal recognition.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Kumawat stated that contractors working with public money should be judged solely by the quality of their output and their adherence to technical standards. He made it clear that there is no room for lobbying or special treatment for contractors under his watch. This public rebuke sent a clear message to the officials and representatives present, shifting the focus of the event from routine formalities to the necessity of administrative accountability.

The Minister issued a stern warning regarding the consequences of substandard work, stating that any negligence or use of inferior materials would lead to immediate blacklisting and the withholding of payments. He cited past examples to underscore his commitment, noting that he had previously ordered the blacklisting of contractors and the cancellation of payments for projects like the Denda-Gundoj road and the Manihari area water pipeline scheme after irregularities were discovered during inspections.

Directing his comments toward the administration, the Minister emphasized that the oversight of development works must extend beyond mere paperwork. He asserted that ensuring the quality of every project funded by the public is a fundamental duty of the administration, and accountability will be strictly enforced for any lapses. The event concluded with the foundation stone laying for significant infrastructure, including a 35 crore rupee sub-district hospital, a 7.10 crore rupee community health center in Khairwa, and various veterinary facilities, all aimed at bolstering the region's healthcare services.
